"CELEBRATING 150 YEARS OF PYTHIANISM"
"Celebrating 125 Years of the Pythian Sisters"
On Wednesday February 19, 2014, the Knights and Sisters met at the Prince Arthur at 6:00 pm to celebrate 150 Years of Pythianism. PSR Avril Howald gave a brief history of the Order.
The Order of Knights of Pythias is an international, non-sectarian order based on Friendship, Charity and Benevolence, established in 1864 in Washington, DC by Justus H Rathbone and was chartered by an Act of Congress.
Domains of the Order exist in most States and Provinces, and Subordinate Lodges are located in many cities and towns across the US, Canada and Italy. Their belief is "If fraternal love held all men bound, how beautiful this world would be".
Along with the institution of the KOP, we are fortunate to have the Pythian Sisters, Dramatic Order of the Knights of Khorrasan, Nomads of Avrudaka, Pythian Sunshine Girls and the Junior Order. The Pythian Sisters was founded in October 23, 1888 with the institution of our first Temple located in Warsaw, Indiana. Jurisdictions of the Order exist in most States and Provinces with Subordinate Temples located in cities and towns throughout the US, Canada and in Italy.
Amethyst Lodge # 49 as been serving the Thunder Bay area for 103 years and counting - a remarkable achievement anyone would be proud of. Welcome Temple # 7 has been actively serving the same community since 1953. Our Pythian involvement did not begin there as Onaway Temple was in existence prior to the amalgamation of both Temples. Our city is also home to the Dramatic Order Knights of Khorrasan (DOKK) and the Nomads of Avrudaka.
Since the beginning the Knights and Sisters have been very active in their communities. In Thunder Bay we continue to serve our community whether its with monetary donations or with our time. We are proud of our accomplishments over the years and not only today but for years to come.
